Muscadine Varieties

01

Supreme:

'Supreme' is the primary black colored fresh fruit cultivar in south Georgia. 'Supreme' has a very large fruit size and good flavor. Among 'Supreme's' primary quality attributes are a crisp edible skin, and a firm pulp.

02

Granny Val:

''Granny Val' is a good performer and is recommended as a late maturing pollinator. Appearance and size of 'Granny Val' was good. The flavor of 'Granny Val' is delicious and leaning towards the sharp side rather than overly sweet.

03

Early Fry:

'Early Fry' is a strong performer. This variety shows high yields for a female variety, early harvesting time, large size, and high soluble solids. We suggest this cultivar due to its significant size, early maturity, and delicious flavor.

04

Tara:

There is a lot to like about 'Tara'. Fruit size is similar to 'Fry', which is quite large for a self-pollinating variety, and harvest season is early. The fruit color is more yellow than 'Fry', and the grapes have a relatively dry stem scar. Fruit rot resistance is good, with high yields.

05

Nesbit:

'Nesbitt' is one of our primary recommendations and ripens grapes throughout the mid to late season harvest period. This trait is excellent as fruit is available for a long time. 'Nesbitt' has a healthy vine, and is relatively free from fruit rots. Flavor is excellent on fully ripened fruit.

06

Paulk:

‘Paulk’ is recommended as a main-season purple muscadine for the fresh market. Size and appearance of ‘Paulk’ is very similar to ‘Supreme’, the leading purple fresh market cultivar. ‘Paulk’ is superior to ‘Supreme’ in that it has self-fertile flowers and less incidence of tearing and splitting at the stem scar. ‘Supreme’ may have better storage potential, last longer on the vine, and have less rot.

07

Hall:

Vines of Hall are self-fertile and have good vine vigor. In general yields are similar to most self-fertile cultivars and better than most female cultivars. Importantly, Hall has excellent low levels of pedicel scar split and pedicel scar tear giving a higher percentage of usable berries.

08

Ison:

Because of its medium/large size and productivity, it has been used as a combination juice/fresh market cultivar. Flavor is superior as long as crop load matches the vine canopy, and some years the crop load is substantial.
